Email received from Battalion.
I apologize for lack of contact the past 6 months. We completed our deployment and returned to
Germany and are now preparing to move the battalion HQs to Alaska. Needless to say, things within
the battalion are hectic, not to mention time spent catching up with our families.
We changed battalion commanders on 2 September 2009. LTC David Oberlander took command
from LTC Michael Blahovec. LTC Oberlander is currently in Alaska serving as the Arctic MP
Battalion Commander awaiting the official arrival of the 793rd Military Police Battalion HQs.
I will have our current unit historian, SFC McCloskey, gather some photos and articles from the past
few months and send them to you for inclusion in your reunion newsletter. Please continue to be
patient with me, we will provide you some items soon.
We selected the 793rd Military Police Battalion Soldier and NCO of the Year for 2009. They are:
SGT Craig Williams and SPC James Boner, both of the 630th Military Police Company. I will have
their names engraved on the Gerda E. Sherokow Memorial Award plaques. Rest assured these
plaques and the continuation of this memorial recognition program will transfer with the rest of the
battalion illustrious history to Alaska.
Once I have the contact for the new Battalion CSM, I will provide that information.
